Windows 8 to get midnight launch - Telegraph.co.uk

"This is a major new development in computing technology and we are expecting really strong sales of Windows 8 products in the run-up to Christmas and beyond," said Currys and PC World spokesman Ben Lovett.

Microsoft has backed the event with a high-profile advertising campaign showcasing Windows 8's radically redesigned interface, which abandons the iconic "Start" button first introduced in Windows 95.

Some users have reportedly found the change difficult to get used to, and Microsoft's cofounder Paul Allen has predicted it will cause "confusion" to begin with.

Windows 7, its more conservative predecessor, was released in 2009 and generally well-received, coming after Windowes Vista, which was widely viewed as slow and riven with bugs
