JAPANESE PHONE MAKER Sony provided an update on its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean schedule today, revealing which of its handsets won't be upgraded beyond Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
On its blog, Sony sheepishly admitted that the Sony Xperia U, Xperia Miro, Xperia Tipo and Xperia Sola won't be upgraded beyond Android 4.0. This isn't too surprising considering these handsets' budget price tags and measly internals, but it might come as disappointing news to those who forked out for the Sony devices.
There's better news for owners of Sony's higher end smartphones, as the firm added that everything is running on schedule so far. As promised, the Sony Xperia S, Xperia SL and Xperia Ion will get a bump to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in "subsequent weeks," while the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V will start to receive the update during February and March of next year.
"We're particularly excited about the Sony Xperia Jelly Bean features and functionality - we look forward to bringing you more information on this in the New Year," Sony said, but it didn't elaborate on what we can expect from the upcoming update.
However, we can expect Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to upgrade these devices with a redesigned user interface, Google Now, smoother performance, camera tweaks and the usual handful of bug fixes. ยต
