A THIEF targeted a major Microsoft complex over Christmas but made off instead with iPads made by rival tech giant Apple.
The burglar broke into the research facility understood to contain Xboxes, Windows Phones and Surface tablets made by Bill Gates's firm and swiped almost £2,000 worth of Apple gear.
Two iPad 2s, two iPad 3s and one iPad 4 disappeared during the raid near San Francisco, California between December 19 and December 26.
Local Police Sgt. Sean Thompson said there was no sign of a forced entry and a suspect is yet to be found.
The Apple products, with a total price tag of around $3,000 (£1,870), were swiped from three offices in Microsoft Building 5.
Microsoft's Mountain View campus, which was closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, is a research facility where new products are tested for security flaws.
