For those of you out there eyeing up one of Google's recently updated Nexus 7 tablets this holiday season, it seems a select few UK retailers are offering the 32GB version for as little as £179.99. That's £30 cheaper than buying it direct from Google's own Play Store, after factoring in shipping costs.
Comet, the struggling UK consumer electronics retailer, recently called in the administrators and have subsequently applied a blanket 10 per cent discount on all products in their physical retail stores to help clear stock. The 32GB Nexus 7 is now just £179.99 instore but stock is shrinking quickly with news of the discount, so you'll have to act fast if you want to make the most of this offer.
Alternatively, if you're also considering buying a case for your new Google tablet, then Currys' may be your best option. They are offering the same 32GB Nexus 7 for £199.99, but you'll get £20 cashback when purchasing any case along with the tablet. Official Nexus 7 cases are £24.99, which means you'll be able to buy both a Nexus 7 and a case for a total of £204.98 with free shipping.
If you'd prefer to pay a little less for a Nexus tablet, then the 16GB Nexus 7 might suit you better. They are available from most leading consumer electronics stores in the UK, including the likes of Asda and Tesco, with prices ranging from £159 – £179. You'll get the exact same hardware and specs as the 32GB model, just with half the storage space. If you store a lot of your files in the cloud then this option will be ideal, but if you'd like to store a lot of music and video content directly on the tablet, then I'd suggest paying a little extra for double the space.
Comet's offer is available while stocks last, Currys' tablet and case deal does not currently have an expiry date. It's far more likely that Currys' will sell out of the 32GB Nexus 7 before the sale ends, so if you're definitely planning to buy one, it's well worth taking advantage of the offer while stocks last.
In related news, if you're one of the many frustrated customers who recently purchased a 16GB Nexus 7 from Google's Play Store ahead of the price drop, then you may be eligible for a £40 refund. Orders placed on or after October 14th are eligible for cashback. Google will refund the difference, but only on orders placed on their store. Purchases from third-party retailers are not included.
On the Google Play support site it says: "Nexus 7 (16GB version only) purchases from Devices on Google Play are currently eligible for Price Protection if the purchase was made on or after October 14, 2012. If your purchase is eligible, we'll refund the difference in price within 14 days of your request."
Requests for a refund must be made by November 15th.
