Could Kindle Paperwhite eBook Readers Overtake Paperbacks This Christmas? - PAB News

The Kindle Paperwhite has received stellar reviews since its launch earlier this year. It is Amazon's latest addition to the Kindle range and is expected to be the number one dedicated e-reader on Christmas wish lists this December.

Although a Kindle is more expensive than a paperback or hardback book, which have been traditional stocking fillers for generations, many sceptics have now adapted to the idea of e-readers and the benefits of these tablet devices have been widely championed.

Hundreds of books can be purchased in the Kindle format at prices below that of the traditional paperback, meaning that owning such a device can, over time, be a sound financial decision for literature lovers.

Furthermore many books can be 'loaned ' for free as a member of Amazon Prime.  Amazon also offer their customers a Kindle Daily Deal, where a particular title can be purchased at a bargain price every day.

Of course for those interested in becoming Authors themselves Amazon' Kindle Direct Publishing offers a cost free route to self-publishing with a 70% royalties programme without the need for agents and avoiding the rejection letters from publishers which most authors are only too aware of.

So, as well as long-term value for money, the Kindle Paperwhite offers the ability to store 1,000s of title in one tablet so the space-saving benefits of storing your library on a tablet device are undeniable – think of the bookshelf space you could save!

Whilst it is impossible to read a paperback in the dark without straining your eyes, the Kindle Paperwhite comes with a built-in light that has over twenty adjustable settings, allowing owners to choose the brightness level they find most comfortable for reading in any light. Of course, the font size and type can be configured to your favourite settings.

One less well known but really great feature is the ability to pinpoint the appearance of every character throughout the books allowing readers to easily pickup where they left off and remind themselves of the role each character has played. A description of each of the books characters as well as the Author also adds to the paperwhite reading experience – the benefits to students of literature being many-fold.

For those who have challenged whether an e-reader screen can truly resemble the pages of a book, the Kindle Paperwhite's E Ink screen will be a revelation. The matte finish means there is no glare and with high resolution and the option to adjust text size, font and margins, it could be argued that the Paperwhite actually supersedes the paperback in quality of reading experience.

Whilst there will always be traditionalists who favour looking at the pages of a paperback rather than the screen of an e-reader, the practical benefits of the Kindle Paperwhite are indisputable. At £109 for the Wi-Fi only model and £169 for the 3G version, the Kindle Paperwhite will ship from Amazon.co.uk in the third week of December – leaving ample time to be wrapped in festive paper and placed beneath the Christmas tree.
