HTC's newly launched J Butterfly is the world's first smartphone with a 5in full HD display, boasting a much sharper screen quality than Apple's iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3, it was announced today.
The Android smartphone will be the first phone to use Super LCD 3 standard while current HTC handsets like the HTC One X utilise Super LCD 2 technology.
Super LCD 3 means a whopping 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution as opposed to the 1,280 x 720 pixel displays of the current generation. The HTC J Butterfly will sport an expansive 5in touchscreen similar to Samsung's newly released Galaxy Note 2, but the Butterfly's display offers a startling 440ppi pixel density.
Comparatively, this means that it's around 25 per cent sharper than the displays of Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S3.
Other specs include being powered by a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. It will have 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera on the front, and full HD video recording capabilities.
Unlike the HTC One X, the HTC J Butterfly will be able expand the storage by a further 32GB via a microSD slot and it will also have 4G LTE connectivity.
Despite its hefty screen, the device is relatively slim at 9.5mm and it has a 2,020mAh battery powering it. Another notable point is that it will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Sense 4 on top.
The new phone will come in white, black, or bright red and available in Japan in December but HTC have not yet announced any plans to release it worldwide.
