Windows Phone 8 will be getting an update in December, according to a statement from Microsoft.
It'll be a bug fix patch primarily aimed at remedying the random reboot problems which multiple users of Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X phones have reported.
The problem isn't affecting every device but certainly there have been enough reports to prompt Microsoft to push the update direct to handsets over-the-air (OTA) in the final month of 2012.
It's not entirely clear whether this is a device-specific issue or a general platform problem, but it sounds as though the update will hit all models, though Microsoft is yet to confirm specifics.
'We're continuing to investigate some reports of phones rebooting and have identified a cause with our partners. We are working to get an over-the-air update out in December,' said a statement from Microsoft.
Although Microsoft believes it has identified the cause of the problem, the company still hasn't yet explained why it's occurring, or why it's only affecting some users.
Microsoft is expected to push a more substantial update, dubbed Apollo +, in the first half of 2013, which is said to add features and functionality which were planned previously but not made ready in time for the platform launch.
This may include a notifications centre, VPN support and an 'always on' Wi-Fi mode, according to reports.
However, it's expected to be previewed at Mobile World Congress in February, which would mean a rollout at some point afterwards.
Naturally, this would've been too long to wait for a bug fix, so Microsoft has decided to issue a patch imminently.
