A Texas man found himself the victim of an extraordinary theft when a UPS delivery man stole the iPad Mini delivered to his doorstep earlier that day by a FedEx employee.

Al Alverson from Houston, Texas had ordered the coveted new Apple tablet for his daughter as a Christmas gift and had been expecting to find the package when he returned home.

Wondering where it could be since he had a confirmation of delivery email from FedEx, Mr Alverson checked the surveillance camera installed outside his front door.

'It said it was delivered at 9:29 a.m.,' Al Alverson said of the email from FedEx. 'So I go up and I have a DVR with all the cameras on it to take a look.'

Much to their astonishment, Mr Alverson and his wife Sandra watched as the deliveryman from FedEx dropped off the iPad at exactly the time confirmed by the email.

Continuing their search through the surveillance footage, at 1.15pm a UPS man was captured arriving at the door with another parcel.

But after two minutes the same man returns, picks up the iPad Mini, considers the label and then walks away with the package.

'I said, "oh my god," it is the UPS guy,' Mr Alverson told KHou 11 News.

He explained that since the incident UPS had been slow to respond and unwilling to resolve the issue.

That is, until he posted the video from his CCTV camera on YouTube for all to see.

'I got a call this morning and they were very helpful. They promised they would get me a replacement iPad today,' he said and confirmed that had kept their word.

UPS told the local station that they had identified the employee in question who was described as a seasonal worker, hired to reinforce the efforts around the holidays.

The company said he has since been fired and according to Harris County Sheriff's Office, he has been arrested and charged with theft.

Pretty sad that the man had to put the video on youtube for UPS to take action.

WOW!! What a way to lose your job. Happy holidays UPS delivery guy in the video.

This won't be his first - nor his last - theft. I am so happy the homeowners had cameras and feel for the people who do not. It's even more outrageous because he is earning a damned good wage.

a proper sign advising visitors of being watched and recorded on camera would really help a lot.

Stupid. He didn't even look around for a camera. Now he's lost his job and getting arrested. Just plain stupid.

So much for Christmas bonus

So this idiot lost his job (as he should) because of his sticky fingers?! Apple products have made these people lose their mind as this is the most commonly stolen product these days. Idiots needs to realize that you can't build a whole new life around an iPad, iPhone, or iPod, so it's not worth stealing. And I know that I am always weary of ordering things in the mail and I only do it when absolutely necessary. My brother lives in the big house in front of me and last year he made the mistake of telling me that he had ordered both me and his wife iPads, needless to say, I was a nervous wreck because I did not want those babies just sitting out on the porch all day until someone got home.

Obamavoter. Why not, he figures.......the gov't redistributes wealth from those who have earned to those who want it. Why not this guy doing the same?

geez,, i hope it was worth his job and his reputation...

Wonder if he needed the Ipad more than his job!!!
