HTC launches a slew of new Windows Phone 8, android handsets - Business Today

Buoyed by the recent launch of Windows Phone 8, HTC has fired a fresh salvo at the Windows smartphone market by unveiling two new handsets.

The company's new flagship phone for Redmond's spanking new mobile OS version will now be the soft matte-finished, polycarbonate bodied HTC 8X.  With a 4.3-inch 720p HD super LCD 2 curved Gorilla Glass display the 8X boasts a Qualcomm S4 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, NFC support and a 1800 mAh battery. The capacitive touchscreen display has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

It has an 8-megapixel primary snapper at the rear that is aided an LED flash for low-light conditions. The 2.1-megapixel camera for frontal shots has a wide angle lens that offers 88-degree view shots and 1080p video recording. The phone also brings Beats Audio support to the Windows Phone 8 platform for Beats audio headsets. According to the HTC sources, this promises high-def sound boosting with lesser distortion than other phones.

The slim and ergonomically crafted smartphone weighs 130 gms. It will ship in four bold colors that are easily identifiable with Windows Phone 8: California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow.

Meanwhile, its Windows Phone 8 sibling, the more affordable 1GHz clock speed HTC 8S houses a 4 inch Super LCD 2 capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It is 120.5 x 63 x 10.28 mm in size and weighs 113 grams. The 8S is powered by a 1,700 mAh Li-Po battery. 8S has 4GB internal storage 512MB RAM. It has 8S has a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. Connectivity options include NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Both phones lack micro SD card slot for additional storage.

While Windows Phone 8X will be available at an MOP of Rs 35,023, the 8S cost Rs 19,260.

On the Android front, HTC has also unveiled One X+ running Android Jelly Bean. The HTC One X+  features a 1.7 GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 AP37 processor, the HTC One X+ is 27 per cent faster than it's erstwhile Android flagship handset, the HTC One. This new offering will come with a 2100 mAh battery and up to 64GB of internal storage.

"We are taking the award-winning HTC One X to a new level with the introduction of the new HTC One™ X+," said Faisal Siddiqui, Country Head, HTC India. "Our customers will have super-fast browsing, an even better camera and more immersive entertainment with Beats Audio."

Available in Stealth Black and Polar White this phone will carry a price tag of Rs 40,190.

Not to lose out on the dual-SIM front, HTC will now have the Desire SV. The Android Ice Cream Sandwich  device priced at Rs 22,590 has a 4.3-inch WVGA display, a 5-megapixel camera, a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, 768MB of RAM, 1GB of internal storage (user available), a microSD card slot. Even though the phone ships with Andorid 4.0, HTC emphasizes that it will be upgradable to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the near future.

All these smartphones will be hitting the Indian store fronts within November 2012.
